MLB.TV Blackout Bypass FAQ

Is there a way to get around the blackout restrictions?

Yes! The key is to fool MLB into thinking you are connecting from outside the USA. There are a few ways to do this, but the one I like the most is Unlocator. Unlocator provides a reliable Smart DNS and VPN service that will allow you to watch any game that streams on MLB.TV. They also offer a free trial.

Which teams am I blacked out from watching?

According to MLB, you can expect to be blacked out of watching teams in your local market. The geography doesn’t always make a lot of sense, however. You can check which teams are subject to blackout for you by entering your zip code here.

Will Unlocator work for the 2020 season?

Yes. Bypassing MLB blackouts is one of Unlocator’s main concerns as they have a lot of subscribers signed up for this sole purpose.

I’m using the MLB app on my phone. Can I get around the blackouts?

The short answer is no. The MLB app relies on Location Services (GPS) to determine your location. Because of this, using a Smart DNS or VPN service will not have an effect on the location MLB sees. It is theoretically possible to trick the MLB app by using a GPS/Location spoofer app, but this would require jumping through complicated hoops like jailbreaking or rooting your phone.

Will this work for other sports?

Yes! It will work for NBA League Pass, NHL.TV, among others.
